چکیده

The present study employed a battery of verbal tests that included a broad range of executive demands to demonstrate the differential contributions of language and executive function to the performance decrement observed in individuals who display impulsive aggressive (IA) outbursts. A profile analysis revealed that despite not differing on tasks requiring limited verbal output, the IAs deviated further from nonaggressive controls as the tasks required increasing spontaneous organization. Results suggest that language ability per se is not impaired in IAs; rather inefficient executive functioning is responsible for their significantly poorer performance on complex verbal tasks. # 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Neuropsychological Correlates of Self-reported Impulsive Aggression in a College Sample

The present study examined the neuropsychological correlates of impulsive aggression/violence using a population which is considered to be functioning ‘normally’ by societal standards, college students. Subjects were 12 college students classified as impulsive aggressive by self-report and 12 nonaggressive matched controls. All impulsive aggressive subjects reported a lifetime history of physic...

Interactions between Callous Unemotional Behaviors and Executive Function in Early Childhood Predict later Aggression and Lower Peer-liking in Late-childhood.

Callous unemotional (CU) behaviors are linked to aggression, behavior problems, and difficulties in peer relationships in children and adolescents. However, few studies have examined whether early childhood CU behaviors predict aggression or peer-rejection during late-childhood or potential moderation of this relationship by executive function. The current study examined whether the interaction...

Exploring the differential associations between components of executive functioning and reactive and proactive aggression.

OBJECTIVE A large body of literature confirms the importance of executive functioning (EF) in the explanation of aggressive and antisocial behaviors. However, the common and specific associations between subtypes of aggression, such as reactive (RA), proactive aggression (PA), and EF are unclear. The current study explored the nuanced associations between components of EF and subtypes of aggres...

Cognitive strategy usage in long-term survivors of severe traumatic brain injury with persisting impulsive aggression

Impulsive aggression (IA) is a relatively common phenomenon in the general nonpatient population and IA, among other forms of impaired self regulatory behavior, is common sequelae of traumatic brain injury. Impaired self regulatory behavior has been associated with dysfunction of orbital frontal cortex. This study examined strategy development and usage in a group of survivors of traumatic brai...

Cerebrospinal fluid glutamate concentration correlates with impulsive aggression in human subjects.

Neurochemical studies have pointed to a modulatory role in human aggression for various central neurotransmitters. Some (e.g., serotonin) appear to play an inhibitory role, while others appear to play a facilitator role. While recent animal studies of glutaminergic activity suggest a facilitator role for central glutamate in the modulation of aggression, no human studies of central glutaminergi...
